Hanouf Al-Juhail is the Director of Learning Support Services. She worked with Dr. Mary Queen as a Writing Center pioneer who transformed a small patch of AUK wilderness into a fecund garden of intellectual inquiry and academic success. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder with a B.S. in Sociology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and AUK represents a renaissance in her plans to continue her career in academia. She has a passion for knowledge and education, and says it is where she finds absolute freedom.

Hala Botros joined the Writing Center as an Academic Support Specialist in September 2013. Hala is an AUK Alumna, she graduated with a B.A. in Communications and Media, with minors in Human Resources and Graphic Design. After spending a year working in television, social media and the arts, Hala came to realize her passion for academia; she returned to AUK to promote scholarship and encourage students to become lifelong learners. Through her role as Academic Support Specialist, Hala assists students in developing their academic writing skills, and encourages them to learn, think, and become. She also serves the role of the Diwaniya Book Club Advisor, which allows her to establish a love of reading and writing within the AUK community. In her free time, Hala dabbles with design, and sometimes uses her artistic skills to promote Academic Support Services to the AUK community.

Dr. Mary Queen is the Dean of Academic Support Services. She earned her Ph.D. in Composition and Cultural Rhetoric from Syracuse University in 2005, and also holds an Advanced Certificate in Women's Studies from Syracuse. She joined AUK in 2005 as an Assistant Professor in the English Department, where she served as Writing Program Coordinator and founded the AUK Writing Center. She taught lower- and upper-level courses in writing and rhetoric in the English Department, including Rhetorics of Cultural Dissonance, Rhetorics of Women's Rights Movements, and Digital Rhetorics. Her research interests include: rhetorics of gender and labor in Kuwait; transnational feminist rhetoric; the uses of social media in writing classes; curriculum development; and writing program administration. In her past life, she worked as an editorial assistant for The Bloomsbury Review, delivery driver for D.H.L., a housepainter specializing in Victorian houses, gardener, grocery bagger, and busgirl. Before she turns 60, she'd like to hike to Everest base camp and jump out of a plane.
