Welcome to the AUK Writing Center (WRC). Students visiting the WRC requesting help at any stage of their writing receive a sounding board for their ideas, a voice of conscience for their sentence-level transgressions, and a reader's response to their writing. In a friendly and cozy environment, the WRC hosts one-on-one consultations where students, staff, and faculty explore ideas through the written word. In addition to the face-to-face consultation sessions and conversations, students now can access WRC services online through the Online Writing Lab (OWL). You can make an appointment to see one of our consultants for any of your writing needs or you can drop in for assistance and we will do our best to accommodate you based upon availability.

We continuously aspire to meet students' needs in finding a topic, recognizing audience, developing research skills, and understanding the conventions of academic writing. The Writing Center's overarching goal is to inspire a love for writing in the AUK community. The AUK Writing Center serves the entire AUK community - students from all levels and majors, faculty, and staff are welcome. Come participate in the WRC's progressive mission in making ideas come alive through writing.

The Writing Center is led by the Assistant Director of Learning Support Services (LSS) - Ms. Hanouf Al-Juhail - who works with a team of professional staff - Hala Botros, Kirsten Bartholome, & Mariam El-Temtamy - in managing the WRC, conducting individual sessions, providing workshops, and supervising and training student consultants. The Assistant Director of the LSS supervises all activities of the WRC and coordinates WRC initiatives with faculty, Deans, and other units across campus. The Assistant Director of LSS reports to the Director of AALSS.

The Writing Center promotes an understanding of writing as a way of thinking, learning, and communicating. To serve this mission, the AUK Writing Center aims to:
  • Cultivate an environment of collaborative inquiry with students seeking help with various writing and reading needs, concerns, and goals;
  • Develop students' understanding of the various writing purposes, audiences, genres, and styles;
  • Develop students' strategies for critical reading and engaging with a variety of texts;
  • Support students' efforts in all stages of their writing processes by offering thoughtful and constructive feedback;
  • Support faculty efforts to develop and integrate a variety of writing assignments into their courses;
  • Provide resources on writing for the entire university community.
The AUK Writing Center (WRC) opened its doors on October 10, 2005. Since then, the WRC has evolved into a popular and lively spot on campus. Students recognize that they can receive professional academic assistance, while faculty members appreciate the support provided by the WRC. The WRC has expanded its services to include writing support for Arabic, French, Spanish, and Italian.

  • Individual writing/reading support.
  • Classroom presentations.
  • Workshops on various writing activities.
