STUDY ABROAD - EXPLORE & PLANNING

AUK Eligibility AUK Programs -
Study Abroad
Overall Process Academic Planning

Finding an overseas experience that meets ones academic and cultural goals can be challenging, but with adequate research and planning students can find the cultural and educational experience they desire.  Each country, university, and program offers unique benefits and challenges and all aspect must be considered.  Equally, each program includes varying degrees of cultural integration based on the structure and language components.  It is best if students, and their families, seek experiences that fit their academic and cultural goals, but also challenge the student and support their personal growth.

Some factors to consider and exploratory questions to help you consider what type of abroad experience you are seeking:

  • What do you want to accomplish and experience from your time abroad?
  • How will you know when you have achieved these goals and experiences?
  • In what region or country do you want to study?  For what period?
  • Do you want to learn another language?
  • What are your academic needs?
  • What additional financial resources do you need?
  • What are you willing to put towards reaching this goal of studying abroad?

One of the most important steps in considering an international experience is to explore the opportunities or student interests, and to adequately plan. Typically planning should begin one year prior to the date of departure. Student must make full consideration of the eligibility requirements and logistical components to enable participation.

The following general factors should be explored considering a study abroad experience:

  • Student Eligibility – AUK & Host institution program
  • Is the Institution and program approved by the Kuwait Government (MOHE)?
  • Timeframe & Duration of Experience
  • Specific Location, University, or Program
  • Academic Planning
  • Applying
  • Financial Planning
  • Travel (Passports, Visas, Insurance, etc.)
  • Health & Safety

Students should meet with the Coordinator of Study Abroad & Student Exchange and their Academic Advisor to explore interests, possible options for consideration, and academic requirements.  Additionally, some students who have previously participated in an overseas program can be contacted to share their experiences (Please contact the Coordinator of Study Abroad & Student Exchange to arrange).
