The Information Technology Department provides and supports an integrated computing and communications infrastructure that is aligned with the University mission and objectives. The department also provides and supports various computing and multimedia services including academic and administrative applications for faculty, staff, and students, events recording (audio and video), media conversion and video conferencing.

AUK's campus is built with the latest cutting-edge technology infrastructure. It is connected with an optical fiber backbone terminating in over 3000 network points and around 70 wireless access points offering full wired and wireless network coverage on campus. The network includes firewalls, intrusion prevention systems, authentication servers, as well as spam and internet filtering. Additionally, AUK's communication system is fully IP-based using voice over IP with voice mail.

Servers with high-end specifications, redundant technology, and storage facilities operate in a newly renovated data center to provide an environment that ensures effective and reliable operations. Critical University data is regularly backed up and safely stored off-campus. Furthermore, all servers and network components are monitored 24x7 to ensure highly available services to the AUK user community.

The department routinely maintains and upgrades the 800+ PC’s and Macs that are available for faculty, staff and students in computer classrooms, offices and public areas such as the open Lab and the Library. PC’s are systemically updated with the latest software patches and antivirus releases.

The IT support unit has recently implemented a state- of- the- art, web-based helpdesk application where users can log in and track any IT-related issue and/or requests.
The Information Technology Department supports AUK's major enterprise software solutions. These include but are not limited to:

  • A Student Information System, as well as a Finance and Human Resources systems from SunGard SCT Banner, an integrated enterprise resource planning solution
