Functional Support Specialist FSSR0218

Description: Under the direct supervision of the Associate Registrar, the Functional Support Specialist is responsible for all functional Banner-related tasks, including updates and maintenance of CAPP, testing and integration of functional updates to existing software (Banner, Argos, DegreeWorks, etc.), collaborating with the Associate Registrar, IT, and IR staff in developing Argos reports, collaborating with IT staff in developing and maintaining all RO forms online via Workflow, and providing functional support and training to staff and faculty in relevant units (colleges, Admissions, Scholarship, AAC, LSS, etc.). This staff member will assist the Associate Registrar in creating semesters, processing end-of-term data, updating academic standing, etc. S/he will also assist in implementing new policies and procedures associated with the functional areas of Banner, and other software used by the RO and the university. The Functional Support Specialist will also establish and maintain close collaboration with IT and IR staff, as well as with the colleges.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintains and updates all RO-related Banner Student modules, and ensures that Banner information is accurate and current.
  • Trouble-shoots and identifies functional errors in Banner, and works with Associate Registrar, IT, and Ellucian in solving issues.
  • Assists Associate Registrar in all Banner processes (creating terms, end-of-term processes, Academic Standing, etc).
  • Works with IT/IR in developing Argos reports and dashboards for RO, AAC, Deans, and Provost to increase accessibility of data for these offices.
  • Assists Director of Academic Advising Center in solving Banner-related issues with Degree Works.
  • Works with RO Academic Support Specialists in maintaining and updating the CAPP system to ensure accuracy and functionality.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Associate Registrar and/or Dean of Academic Support Services.
Qualification: Qualifications
  • B.S. or its equivalent required.
  • Relevant IT background or experience (e.g., SQL, programming, etc.)
  • Excellent spoken and written English.
  • Excellent spoken and written Arabic.
  • Experience with SQL, programming, and working with various kinds of software.
  • Experience in college/university setting strongly preferred.
  • Experience working effectively as a team member with and for multicultural/multilingual populations required.
  • Organizational Skills: Work in an efficient and logical manner to manage priorities, deadlines, and workload to complete task and project deadlines.
  • Records Management Skills: Accurately & efficiently sort, file, and retrieve records data.
  • Relationship Building: Establish and strengthen trust and confidence in the Registrar's Office through a collegial, professional, and team-oriented approach to serving students, staff, faculty, and the institution. Establish and strengthen the Registrar Office'€™s credibility with individuals and communities within and outside of AUK.
  • Verbal Communication Skills: Communicate ideas, opinions, objections, and emotions clearly to colleagues; communicate policies and procedures, explanations, and directions clearly and effectively to students; communicate clearly and effectively Registrar Office'€™s perspectives to colleagues from units across the campus.
  • Writing Skills: Compose clear, well-organized, concise, and error-free written material that follows generally accepted rules of style and form.
  • The ability to deal with interruptions throughout the workday.
  • The ability to work some flexible hours (some evening & weekend hours).
  • The ability to work effectively in a dynamic and team-oriented environment.
  • The ability to interact effectively with students (current & prospective), parents, faculty, and administration.
