About Center for Gulf Studies
About the Gulf Studies Symposium
The Gulf Studies Symposium is a meeting of worldwide Gulf scholars and researchers hosted biennially by the Center for Gulf Studies at AUK, inaugurated in 2013. Each symposium is based on a particular scholarly theme that is timely both to the region and to the field of Gulf studies. Our objective is to bring together local, regional, and international researchers to engage in interdisciplinary discussions on diverse social, cultural, and political issues relating to the Gulf. The GSS is a venue for scholars who conduct original, qualitative, and in-depth research to share and receive critical feedback on their work, and to learn more about what other scholars in their field are working on. Our goal is to help shape the Gulf studies research agenda by constantly identifying and drawing attention to the subjects on which the most unique and interesting research is being pursued.

Our definition of the Gulf region in the GSS includes the GCC states, Iran, Iraq, and Yemen. We welcome the participation of scholars from a diverse range of disciplines, and particularly encourage scholars who work within the region to contribute to these critical discussions on the Gulf.

The 3rd Gulf Studies Symposium will be held on 1719 March 2017. The symposium is open to the public, though advanced registration is required as seating is limited. Registration will be open once the program is released in early 2017.
