Letter from the Director
Dear Intensive English Student,
On behalf of the faculty and staff of the Intensive English Program, I am delighted to welcome you to the Intensive English Program, a key part of American University of Kuwait’s foundation program. This 15 or 16-week academic program provides twenty hours of classroom instruction and 5 hours of lab per week for students who need to significantly improve their English to study at American University of Kuwait, whose professions require a mastery of the English language or who simply desire to improve their English language skills. The program includes instruction in grammar, speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, and pronunciation. Students will be assigned morning classes (8:00 am to 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm Sunday through Thursday), afternoon classes (12:00 pm to 4:00 Sunday through Thursday) or evening classes (4:00 pm to 9:00 Sunday through Thursday) based on the level they place into. Each hour contains 50 minutes of class and 10 minutes of break time.
Classes are held on the campus of the American University of Kuwait, allowing students the opportunity to learn their way around campus and mix with students at the university.
The Intensive English Program is supported by a wide range of resources, beginning with our staff. Our instructors are trained to teach speaking, listening, reading and writing at the college level. Other resources available to Intensive English students are individual and workshops offered through the Writing Center. Finally, as the Director of the course, I am available to help you if you still feel stuck after trying the resources above.
I invite you to browse this site. You will find here information about the structure of Intensive English classes, level progression, program schedules, and links to resources. Finally, I wish you the most success in your courses at American University of Kuwait.
Sincerely,
Stephen Jacques
Interim Director
Intensive English Program
