The Library at the American University of Kuwait exists to support and advance the educational mission of the University by facilitating access to scholarly collections and information resources. Students, faculty, and staff may borrow certain non-reference materials to enhance their academic, professional, and personal pursuits. The borrowing of materials is subject to the policy defined below.
1. Borrowing Privileges
Borrowing privileges are granted to students, faculty, and staff who are in possession of valid AUK ID cards. Guests are welcome to use the resources by obtaining a library membership card.
You are accountable for items borrowed on your ID so never let another person use your ID card or borrow items for another person

2. Renewals
The borrower is responsible for renewing his or her materials before the due date. You may renew the items;
- In person at the circulation desk located in the ground floor.
- By telephone: 1-802040 Ext.505 & 504
- By email: Library@auk.edu.kw
All books are subject to recall 14 days after their first checkout date, and / or any time for reserve use.
3. Overdue Materials
Overdue notices will be sent to borrowers by campus email. The Library will send a notice 3 days prior to the due date as a reminder. For any overdue items, the borrower will receive the first email notice one day after the due date. The Library will send a second notice after the grace period (7 days). Final notice will be sent 14 days after the due date.
If the item is not returned within the grace period, fines will start accumulating from the first day past the due date. If the item is not returned, the borrower will not be able to borrow until he or she returns the overdue items.
Failure to receive an overdue notice does not exempt a borrower from a fine
.
4. Lost or damaged items
Lost items should be reported promptly. If the Library considers the item lost or damaged, the borrower will be charged the cost of that item plus the processing fee (KD 10).
5. Fines
The fine for overdue materials is set at 250 fils per day to a maximum of KD 10 per item. For any unpaid fines, the borrower will receive one fine notice after the item is returned. If the fines are not paid, fines will be added to the borrowers AUK fees (in the case of students) or deducted from the borrowers salary (in the case of faculty and staff). If a student has unpaid fines, he or she will not be able to register until his or her record is cleared.
