The American University of Kuwait, on October 23rd, hosted the former President of Costa Rica, H.E. Jose Maria Figueres Olsen, who presented a lecture on Climate Change titled: Mitigating Climate Change: Our Responsibility with the Next Generations.
The lecture was attended by more than 150 guests, among them students, faculty and staff of AUK, distinguished guests and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
Two Kuwaiti companies, National Projects Holding and Equilibrium Consulting, joined forces to facilitate and organize the event. They thought it vital and most effective to conduct the event in an academic setting. The American University of Kuwait was honored to offer its facilities as venue and host of the prestigious event.
President Figueres is a world leader in sustainable development. He was the first CEO of the World Economic Forum, a founding member of Club de Madrid, and the first recipient of the Global Prize from the World Bank's Global Environmental Fund.
According to Dr. Marina Tolmacheva, President of the American University of Kuwait, the lecture addressed the need for developing comprehensive sustainable development policies, for strengthening ties to government and social sectors, and for taking personal responsibility for policies affecting development and the environment.
