Office of the Dean of Student Affairs

Dr. Hanan Muzaffar
Dean of Student Affairs

PhD in English Literature, from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2000. Assistant professor of English at Kuwait University for 11 years. More....

Dr. Muzaffar's research revolves around gender studies and minority writers. She teaches classes predominantly within the field of literature and literary theory, with an occasional venture into classes in English skills such as writing and speech.

Dr. Muzaffar has been head of the Student Guidance office between 2004-2006 at Kuwait University. She currently serves on the editorial board of Ibdaat Alamiya, a publication of the National Council of Culture, Arts, and Letters.

Amal Behbehani
Administrative Assistant to the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs

Amal is an AUK Alum (Class of 2011) with a BA in English and a minor in Communication & Media. More....

After earning her MBA from GUST in 2013, Amal spent a year working for her family company. She then switched back to the university lifestyle when she worked as a Lab Instructor last year before joining us this year at Student Affairs.

Shirley Marshall
Director of Student Life

MBA, University of Leicester, UK. Shirley comes to AUK with over 8 years of experience in financial, audit & compliance. More....

Before joining AUK, she worked at Agility Defense & Government Services. Shirley joined AUK in 2010 and has abundant knowledge and experience in Student Affairs supporting the Office of the Dean in various programs before moving to the Office of Student Life.

Omar Mehdi
Senior Sports Coordinator

Omar has over 5 years of experience as a student worker and full-time employee at AUK. More....

He is also an Alumnus and has earned many awards at AUK including; University Founder's Award, Outstanding Athlete Award, and the Student Affairs Dean's Award. Omar went on to get his master's degree from the University of San Diego in Leadership in Higher Education.

Lama Maher Abdo
Events Coordinator

Lama, a graduate of Al Nelain University - Jordan - Amman, earning a degree in Business Administration - Marketing. More....

Joined AUK first time December 2010-2011 working at the Human Resource Department. She currently serves the Office of Student Life. She has more than 6 years' experience. Previously worked at Nutrition and Diet Center - Kuwait as PR & Marketing Manager and in Events Planning as PR & Marketing filed. Her previous experience in different areas and strong knowledge of the Division needs is an added value to our team and the AUK Family.

Mohammad Al Saleh
Sports Coordinator

Mohammad has a B.B.A in Management from AUK. More....

He was a student athlete from 2012-2015, serving as an Assistant Coach and Captain. While at AUK, he was also a member of the Student Council.

Mohammad has many years of experience in youth development programs with various youth centers in Kuwait and with various summer sports camps in the U.S.A. In addition, he has 4 years of experience in public relations and was a business owner for more than 8 years in the food industry.

Jeeda Al-Farouqi
Senior Student Life Coordinator

Jeeda is an AUK Alumni, class of 2009, with a Bachelor's degree in Media and Communications, specialization in journalism. More....

She previously worked in public relations and communications at Memac Ogilvy & Mather, as well as part of KIPCO group and Gulf Bank, handling internal and external communications. She has also worked as a creative content writer for ARTSPACE.

Jeeda has a passion for writing, arts and sports. She looks forward to working with the AUK community bringing to students the knowledge and experience she has gained during her career prior to returning to AUK.

Danah AlBader
Student Life Coordinator

Danah is an AUK Alumni, class of 2017, with a Bachelor's degree in International Relations. More....

She previously worked in International Relations Department a student employee. She was also a very active student and served as President in the International Relations Club. She also represented the University in regional competitions.

Jason Sullivan
Director/Mental Health Counselor

M.A. in Counseling, RTS Orlando. B.A. in Philosophy and Religious Studies, University of Tennessee. More....

Jason comes to AUK with over ten years of experience in the counseling field working with students, adults, and families. As a therapist, he has worked with individuals on a variety of personal issues and has experience working in clinics, private practice, and residential treatment centers.

Dr. Huda Shaaban
Assistant Director for Disability/Enrichment Services

Bachelor's degree is in clinical psychology and Master's and Doctorate are in Psychology with a specialization in Learning Disabilities. More....

Dr. Huda Shaaban completed her postsecondary education at Lebanese University in Beirut. Her bachelor's degree is in clinical psychology and master's and doctorate are in Psychology with a specialization in Learning Disabilities. She has been working in the educational field in Kuwait since 1996, having greater than 22 years of experiences working with youth, young adults and families. For the past three years, she was assigned by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as an LD/ADHD expert to support the Kuwaiti Association for Learning Differences (KALD).

Dr. Huda Shaaban is a founding member and President of the Learning Difficulties Professional Association in Kuwait (LDPA) -which was established in Kuwait in 2002; an organization directly involved with teachers and specialists working in the private schools working in Kuwait.

With a command of Arabic and English, Dr. Huda Shaaban has presented in many professional events and conferences in Kuwait and the Arab world on such topics as Learning Difficulties, Attention Deficit/ Hyperactivity Disorder, Teaching Strategies, Classroom Practices, Differentiation Instructions, Curriculum Accommodations and Modifications, Behavior and School Management, Social Emotional Learning, Emotions and Motivations, Multiple Intelligence, Learning Styles, Brain Based Learning, and Executive Functions.

Dr. Huda is working directly with AUK students in identifying accommodations resources and needs, as well with Academic Affairs and other Student Services offices in order to ensure that students receiving accommodations have an equitable chance of success.

Sophia Pais
Coordinator/Counselor (Special Needs & Personal Counseling)

Sophia Pais received her Master's in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work from Mangalore University, India. More....

She has worked as a counselor at various settings, including hospitals, health care centers and schools, and as a Behavior Therapist for children with autism and related disorders. She has completed a coaching training program on 'Coaching teens and college students with ADHD' conducted by the JST Coaching and Training and organized by LDPA. She is in the process of getting certified by the International Coaching Feder.

Zainab O Wasfi
Counseling Center Coordinator

Zainab Wasfi graduated with an English Language and Literature degree from AUK in the summer of '17. More....

Aside from English literature, she enjoys dabbling in the areas of analytical psychology and the history of various feminist/egalitarian movements.

Zainab has a plethora of experiences with various AUK departments since 2014 as a student worker at the IEP Department. Ever since then her experiences have been shaped by being in the Student Council and Editor-in-Chief of the Voice Newspaper among others.

Lodi Salahaldeen
Personal Counselor

Lodi received her MSc in Counseling Psychology from Keele University, U.K. and B.A. in Psychology and Arabic Language & Culture from the University of Ottawa, Canada. More....

She is a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy. She previously worked at Behmen Hosptial, Douglas MacMillan Hospice and Kuwait Psychological Medicine Hospital. She has two years of experience as a mental health counselor. She enjoys helping clients make positive changes in their lives.

Abir Tannir Itani
Assistant Director

M.A. in Counseling and B.A. in Education, American University of Beirut. More....

Abir has over 4 years of experience in educational setting. As a counselor, she has worked with students on personal counseling and educational psychology.

Sheetal Swamy
Career Coordinator

Sheetal received an MBA in Human Resource Management from Sikkim Manipal University and Bachelor of Commerce from University of Mumbai. More....

Sheetal comes to AUK with over 6 years of experience in recruitment, administration and hospitality. She has also received her training as a Career Development Facilitator from the National Career Development Association. Apart from research, she enjoys arts and music.

Joining AUK in 2010, she has been a part of the Counseling Center supporting the administrative needs of the department prior to moving to Alumni Affairs and Career Development. Sheetal looks forward to work closely with students as a career guide and support through various career development programs.

Nadia Al-Madani
Senior Coordinator of Alumni Affairs

Nadia graduated with an MBA from the New York Institute of Technology, School of Management and Business Administration in 2011. More....

Prior to that, she had earned her BA in English Literature from Kuwait University in 2007.

During her MBA, she worked with the UNDP under the Gender Program team in Jordan and conducted research on human trafficking, child prostitution, and Women's education. She has participated in several campaigns and fundraisers that have helped raise awareness on such issues to guarantee that women in conflicted zones received the education needed.

Nadia has five years of experience in Public Relations and Media. She has done PR work for projects in construction, in addition to her brief experience and training in News Broadcasting Systems.

Nadia values all philanthropic causes and has been an active member in society since Middle School. She enjoys outdoor sports, water activities, and cooking in her free time. Traveling and exploring new cities is her passion.

Jena Al-Awadhi
Coordinator of Alumni Affairs

Jena graduated with a BA in Mass Communications & Media at the American University of Kuwait in 2014. More....

Immediately after graduating, she was employed at the National Bank of Kuwait in Digital Marketing, Social Media Management where she worked for two years. Her passions include photography, videography, filmmaking, music and traveling.
