AUK Library Organizes Open House in Collaboration with French Embassy

30th Apr 2023 | by the Department of PR & Marketing

The library at AUK organized an Open House for members of the campus community. The event showcased library resources, services, and technologies to students and faculty. Part of the Open House activities included hosting Campus France in collaboration with the French Embassy in Kuwait to join the international celebration of the Francophonie month.

AUK instructor of French language, Ms. Layal Jaber participated in the exhibitions along with several students who were enrolled in French courses. Visitors had the chance to learn more about the French language, culture, and about studying in France.

Also in the Open House were academic resource vendors and publishers such as Naseej and Virtus who provided live demos on certain resources and showcase the latest in terms of research databases and products. Students from the AUK chapter of the International English Honor Society—Sigma Tau Delta were also present to talk to students and test their knowledge on various literature.

The event also showcased a social robot named Furhat, which had human-like expressions and advanced conversational artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities. Students interacted with the robot and asked general and specific questions to experience a new form of communication with AI.

Attendees participated in educational games and activities developed by librarians and learned about academic resources, information literacy and research skills that they can apply to their research.
