Maryam Hosseinnia
Associate Professor of Graphic Design
Prof. Hosseinnia is an associate professor of graphic design at the American University of Kuwait. Prof. Hosseinnia earned her MFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD), Minnesota, United States. For several years, Prof. Hosseinnia served as program lead and later served as the Art and Graphic Design Department chair. Before joining AUK in 2007, Prof. Hosseinnia taught at Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) as an assistant professor in graphic design. Prof. Hosseinnia’s research interests converge different aesthetic disciplines, resulting in various things from graphic representation to spatial installation. These explorations include examining space, time, place, design, and cultural theory, semiotic, ethnography, typography, intercultural and cross-cultural visual communication. Her work has been in exhibitions in China, Kuwait, South Korea, the UAE, and the United States. In addition, she is the co-founder of the Typography and Calligraphy Symposium (TypeCal) in Kuwait.
