Ali Aljamal

Associate Professor of Economics

Dr. Ali Aljamal is an associate professor of economics at the American University of Kuwait where he has been a faculty member since 2007. Dr. Ali completed his Ph.D. and undergraduate and graduate studies at the University of Arizona.  Prior to joining AUK, he held positions at the Indiana University Purdue University in Indianapolis, Kalamazoo College, and Western Michigan University.  
His scholarly interests stem from his belief that economic education is an essential core life skill for a healthy and sustainable ecosystem.  His research interests range from students engaging and learning technology to food security and sustainability of energy and water.  He published an article on the role of online assignments in increasing student engagement and is actively investigating its role in student effort and motivation.  His latest article is forthcoming in the Local Environment: The International Journal of Justice and Sustainability on resistance to reductions in water subsidies in Kuwait. Lately, his scope of interest has expanded to behavioral economics and nudging techniques in public policy. Dr. Ali chaired and served on key university and college committees and served for several years as department chair in the College of Business and Economics.
