Aliaa Abou-Ali

Visiting Assistant Professor of Systems Engineering

Dr. Aliaa Abou-Ali is a visiting assistant professor of systems engineering at the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) at the American University of Kuwait (AUK). Additionally, she holds a position as an assistant professor (on-leave) in the Production Engineering Department at Alexandria University, Egypt.

She earned her Ph.D. in interdisciplinary engineering from Khalifa University (UAE) - formerly known as Masdar Institute, which had an affiliation (MOU) with Massachusetts Institute of Technology - in 2018. Her research focused on the mechanical behavior of polymeric cellular solids fabricated through additive manufacturing. She also holds an M.Sc. and a B.Sc. degree (both with Distinction) in industrial engineering from the Production Engineering Department at Alexandria University, Egypt, achieved in 2011 and 2007, respectively.

She has contributed to the field of advanced manufacturing through her research, where she served as a post-doctoral fellow and research assistant in the Advanced Digital & Additive Manufacturing (ADAM) Centre, Department of Aerospace Engineering, Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, UAE. She has actively contributed to projects involving functionally graded metamaterials, triply periodic minimal surfaces, and lightweight materials on 3D-printed sandwich panels for aerospace industries. She has a strong background in finite element analysis, material constitutive modeling, and mechanical testing. Her research interests encompass a wide range of applications for 3D-printed components, exploring the intricate interrelationship between materials and fabrication processes. Her expertise in additive manufacturing is currently centered on investigating the properties, design intricacies, and sustainability considerations of 3D-printed components across various disciplines and industries.
