Marwa Sharawi
Visiting Assistant Professor
Dr. Marwa Sharawi is an assistant professor in the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) at the American University of Kuwait (AUK). Holding both an M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Information Technology from the Faculty of Computers and Artificial Intelligence (FCI) at Cairo University, Egypt.
With over two decades of experience in academia, Dr. Sharawi has served at prestigious institutions such as Middlesex University, the University of Sharjah (UOS), Cairo University (CU), the British University in Egypt (BUE), and the Arab Open University (AOU). This rich professional journey has equipped her with a deep understanding of diverse educational environments and methodologies, enhancing her ability to contribute meaningfully to the academic community at AUK.
Previously, Dr. Sharawi served as the program coordinator of the Faculty of Computer Studies at the Arab Open University (AOU), Egypt branch. During her position, she fulfilled various supervisory and administrative positions, including Egypt branch representative, faculty representative, Accreditation Committee Chair, and general course coordinator for introductory and advanced CSIS courses. Additionally, she contributed significantly as a member of the University Disciplinary Board and various committees, such as the Examination Committee, Research and Development Committee, Accreditation Committee, and Strategic Plan Committee.
At AUK, Dr. Marwa had a significant role in organizing the IEEE EDUCON 2023 event and supervised the IEEEXTREME Programming Competition 17.0. She supervised the 1’st wining CS capstone project in the AY22/23 and granted the AUK research grant. Currently, she holds the Local Lead position in Kuwait for the NASA SpaceApp Challenges Hackathon 2024 and acts as a member of the capstone exhibition committee. Beyond her organizational commitments, she serves as a member in academic committees, accreditation committee, and capstone coordinator.
Dr. Sharawi's multifaceted research interests underscore her dedication to advancing knowledge and innovation within the field. Her expertise in artificial intelligence, applied artificial intelligence, data mining, meta-heuristics, machine learning, nature-inspired optimization, networking and data communication, topological optimization of wireless sensor networks, and human-computer interaction is evident. She serves as a reviewer for esteemed journals including IEEE Transactions on Artificial Intelligence and IEEE Access and a reviewer for 3’rd IEEE International Conference on Computing and Machine Intelligence, track ICMI2024. Furthermore, Dr. Sharawi is a certified professional trainer in Institute of Leadership and Management institute of leadership and management (ILM) UK.
