Karim Naji Jallad

Dr. Karim N. Jallad is a professor of chemistry at the American University of Kuwait where he has been a faculty member since 2006. He received his Ph.D. from Purdue University in 2001, his M.Sc. from Mississippi State University in 1995, and his B.Sc. from the American University of Beirut in 1992. He is the author of over 30 publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals including two U.S. patents entitled, “Folate Targeted Enhanced Tumor and Folate Receptor Positive Tissue Optical Imaging Technology”. In addition, he received numerous research grants from several institutions such as the National Institute of Health (USA) and the National Science Foundation (USA). His research interests lie in the areas of spectroscopy and imaging applied in the analysis of both biological species and composite materials and in remediation of contaminated sites. In recent years, he has focused his research on toxic heavy metals detection in different environmental and food products matrices to study and assess their effects on human health and the ecosystem. Dr. Jallad considers teaching to be as central to the academic experience as research. He spends considerable effort on the courses he teaches to students majoring in engineering and other disciplines.
