AUK Model United Nations Visit to the Kuwait Diplomatic Institute (KDI)
On October 8th, 2017, members of the Model United Nations at AUK under the auspices of the Department of International Relations were invited to visit his Excellency, Abdullah Al-Yahya, Secretary of the Board of Director at the Kuwaiti Diplomatic Institute, where young college graduates train to serve as future diplomats in Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Attending the meeting were Ali K. Al-Qallaf, President of AUKMUN, Mejren Al-Loughani, Treasurer, Saba Al-Sulaiti, Secretary, Hamad Al-Mutairi and Maryam Al-Olaimi members of AUKMUN. Accompanying the group was AUKMUN academic advisor, Professor Gholam R. Vatandoust. The meeting proved to be highly beneficial, opening up venues for future assistance from his Excellency, Al-Yahya.
The following day, October 9th, executive members of AUKMUN were honored to attend a lecture by the Former Secretary General of the United Nations, His Excellency Ban Ki-moon entitled, “Leadership of Kuwait in a Changing World".
In his lecture, Ban Ki-Moon touched upon several issues concerning Kuwait and the region. Foremost he praised His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah for his humanitarian services at both the regional and global levels. The role of Kuwait as a mediator in the recent Gulf Crisis was praised and the significance of the GCC members to continue to maintain their unity and solidarity in these difficult times was mentioned. Finally Kuwait’s current unique role to serve as a humanitarian broker within the Security Council was delineated.
