Navigating Accessibility: Insights from AUK's AI Panel Discussion

The Office of Research and Grants (ORG) at AUK recently hosted a panel discussion titled, "How Artificial Intelligence Can Enhance Digital Accessibility." The event, held in the AUK Auditorium, aimed to highlight AI advancements and their potential to improve digital accessibility for all, including those with disabilities. 

Dr. Ahmad Alsaber, assistant professor of management and ORG assistant director, opened the event, with Ms. Afsah Abdullah moderating the discussion. Experts in AI and digital accessibility included Dr. Zainab Al-Meraj, associate professor in computing at Kuwait University (KU); Mr. Ahmad Tawfiq Albahar, radio producer and host at the Ministry of Information in Kuwait; Dr. Iyad Abu Doush, ORG director and professor of computer science at AUK; and Mrs. Al-Khansa Al-Husseini, director of planning and research at the Public Authority for Disability Affairs. 

Dr. Zainab underscored the importance of proactive measures that individuals and organizations can implement to foster inclusivity in digital environments, whilst Mr. Ahmad shared personal insights into improving digital accessibility for individuals with visual impairment. 

On the other hand, Dr. Iyad emphasized the significance of integrating digital accessibility guidelines into the core curriculum of computer science programs to ensure future generations of developers prioritize inclusivity. Mrs. Al-Khansa also shed light on common barriers hindering the widespread adoption of digital accessibility standards among government agencies. She proposed strategies to overcome these obstacles, thus creating a more inclusive digital environment. 

This panel discussion exemplified the institution's dedication to promoting inclusivity in the digital sphere. By convening experts from various fields, including academia, government, and media, AUK showcased its commitment to addressing the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities in accessing digital content.
