The American University of Kuwait received its Institutional Accreditation from the Private Universities Council (PUC) – Ministry of Higher Education in the State of Kuwait, as of February 1, 2006.

Candidate for Accreditation status was granted on March 12, 2026. Candidate for Accreditation status is an indication that an institution is progressing toward, but is not assured of, accreditation.
