Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the governing body of the American University of Kuwait. Its responsibilities and terms of reference are outlined in the AUK By-Laws. The Board is self-perpetuating and self-governing, consisting of nine distinguished members, along with the University president and the Dartmouth College relationship coordinator (director) as ex-officio members.
The Board of Trustees convenes twice a year at AUK’s Salmiya campus, providing strategic oversight and guidance to uphold the University’s mission and commitment to academic excellence.

ABOUT the President
The American University of Kuwait is led by Dr. Rawda Awwad, President of AUK. Reporting to the president are the senior administrators of the institution including the vice president for Academic Affairs, the vice president for Student Affairs, college deans (College of Arts & Sciences, College of Business & Economics, and College of Engineering & Applied Sciences), and the directors of Information Technology, Finance, and Human Capital.

Dr. Aseel Al-Awadhi is the vice president for academic affairs at American University of Kuwait. Dr. Al-Awadhi earned her Ph.D. in Political Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin and later served as a Visiting Scholar at Georgetown University. She also led the Kuwait Cultural Office in Washington, DC, where she oversaw major educational initiatives and student services. Her career reflects a strong record of leadership that aligns closely with AUK’s academic mission and strategic priorities.
As Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Al-Awadhi will provide strategic leadership for the University’s academic enterprise. She is responsible for advancing academic priorities, strengthening teaching and learning, and aligning the University’s mission with Kuwait’s educational and workforce needs.
Vice President for Student Affairs
Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Farhan is the vice president for student affairs and an associate professor of Middle Eastern studies at the American University of Kuwait. An AUK alumnus (Class of 2011), he holds a Ph.D. in Near and Middle Eastern Studies and an M.A. in Arabic literature from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, as well as a B.B.A. in finance from AUK.
Dr. Al-Farhan has held several leadership roles at AUK, including associate dean, assistant dean, department chair, and Arabic program lead. His research interests focus on modern Arabic literature, poetry, cultural identity, the intersections of politics and literature, and Arab intellectual history. He has published multiple studies in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes, contributing to the broader discourse on Arabic literary traditions and cultural narratives.
A dedicated educator, Dr. Al-Farhan has designed and taught courses on Arabic literature, Arab heritage, and Arab-Islamic civilization while actively mentoring students and supporting extracurricular initiatives. His commitment to student engagement and academic excellence continues to enhance AUK’s student experience.
