AUK Students Achieve Remarkable 3rd Place Victory in Gulf Programming Competition
Students from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS) at AUK secured an impressive 3rd place in the 11th Gulf Programming Competition (GPC), held at Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat, Oman. They showcased their abilities on a prominent regional platform, competing against 42 teams spanning four countries: Oman, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait.
Bader AlOtaibi, Yousef AlHamad, and Fahad Kalloush, serving as AUK representatives, demonstrated their problem-solving prowess and coding skills throughout the competition. Their outstanding performance was achieved under the expert guidance of Ms. Dima Aburshaid, senior instructor at CEAS and GPC judge, with additional coaching support from instructional assistant, Ms. Razan AlFar; and teaching assistant, Mr. David Liang.
Ms. Aburshaid, who has been diligently coaching these students over the past two years, commented on their well-deserved ranking, “This achievement is nothing but a result of consistency, hard work, and dedication. I am very proud of them and their dedication. What the students learn in these competitions cannot be taught in a classroom. This goes beyond the academic knowledge. They learn that they can be pushed beyond their perceived limits, that they can deliver under pressure, to communicate, resolve and achieve.”
GPC is renowned for its rigorous challenges and intense competition, where teams of three students collaborate using a single computer to solve a set of complex programming problems within a limited time frame of 5 hours. Participants are evaluated based on the number of correct solutions, the speed of problem-solving, and the minimum number of attempts made to solve each question.
This accomplishment underscores the University's unwavering dedication to nurturing talent, championing excellence, and cultivating an atmosphere that encourages innovation and lifelong learning.
