AUK Celebrates Excellence at the Annual Awards Ceremony
AUK hosted its annual awards ceremony in a special evening dedicated to celebrating the outstanding achievements of its students and clubs. The event brought together the AUK community to honor those who have excelled in academics, sports, and extracurricular activities, highlighting their dedication and hard work.

Abdulrahman Tareq Abdelmoneim was named Exceptional Member of the Year for his extraordinary contributions and commitment to the University. The International Relations Club won Most Improved Club, recognizing their significant progress and enhanced activities. Their event, Makhmekh, was awarded Event of the Year for its exceptional execution and impact. AUKMUN was celebrated as the Club of the Year, acknowledging their consistent excellence and contributions to campus life.

In sports, Abdulateef Al Roudan and Dana Ben Salamah were honored as Male and Female Athletes of the Year for their outstanding sportsmanship and academic achievements. Lynn Pais and Hajer Al-Enezi were named Student Employees of the Year, recognizing their leadership and dedication. The Wolf Pack Award went to Nuha Al-Sahli for her transformative leadership of the student-run magazine, VOICE. The prestigious President's Award was presented to Aiza Hussein for her resilience, integrity, and commitment to making a positive impact on others' lives, embodying the spirit of holistic education at AUK.

The annual awards ceremony was a heartfelt celebration of the exceptional talents and contributions of the AUK community. It honored the hard work and achievements of its members, reinforcing the University's commitment to fostering an environment of excellence and innovation.

AUK ORG and USM Forge Research Partnership with Memorandum of Understanding
The Office of Research and Grants (ORG) at AUK and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) have taken a significant step towards strengthening international collaboration in the field of research and education with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). 

The MOU aims to enhance cooperation in scientific studies and research development. This collaboration seeks to broaden the scope of knowledge and establish a framework for joint research initiatives between the two institutions. 

Under the MOU, both parties have agreed to explore opportunities for collaboration in various areas, including joint research projects and the organization of research workshops. These initiatives are geared towards fostering innovation, sharing expertise, and addressing global challenges through collaborative research efforts. 

Commenting on the significance of the MOU and its caliber, Dr. Iyad Abu Doush, ORG director, stated, “We are excited to embark on this collaborative journey with USM. This partnership opens doors to new opportunities for knowledge exchange and interdisciplinary collaboration, ultimately driving innovation and societal impact.” 

The signing of the MOU marks the beginning of an exciting chapter in the collaboration between USM and AUK. AUK and American University in Washington, D.C. Announce a Collaborative Partnership
AUK and the American University (AU) in Washington, D.C. have solidified a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Agreement. This milestone marks a significant advancement in fostering academic collaboration and promoting cultural exchange between the two esteemed institutions.  

Under the agreement, AU and AUK have committed to exploring cooperative academic initiatives. The agreement outlines a framework for joint programs, research endeavors and other educational initiatives. This partnership will not only enhance educational opportunities for students but also contribute to the advancement of knowledge and understanding on a global scale. 

Commenting on the significance of this agreement, AUK President and Dr. Rawda Awwad stated, “Our collaboration with the American University in D.C. will provide our students with expanded opportunities to broaden their academic and cultural horizons in the heart of America's political and cultural landscape, while also offering AU the opportunity to engage with diverse perspectives and innovative ideas from our dynamic student body. Revolutionizing Education: Insights by Dr. Iyad Abu Doush at 'The Future of AI' Event
Director of Research and Grants, Dr. Iyad Abu Doush represented AUK as a panelist at an event titled, "The Future of AI: Revolutionizing Industries in Kuwait" organized by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham). The event, moderated by Mr. Alleddin Karim, the Country General Manager of Microsoft Kuwait, provided a distinguished platform for discussing the transformative potential of artificial intelligence across various sectors. Esteemed panelists also included Mr. Ali Fenjan from the American International University, Mr. Naeem Mirza of AI Doctrine, and Mona Salem from the Ministry of Education. The discussions focused on how AI can revolutionize education, enhance learning experiences, and address educational challenges in Kuwait.

The panel discussion explored the impact of adaptive learning technologies on Kuwait's diverse educational landscape. The conversation examined how AI-driven tools could be customized to boost student engagement and learning outcomes across elementary, middle, and high school levels. Additionally, the potential of AI in supporting special needs education was highlighted. By tailoring AI applications to meet the diverse requirements of students with disabilities, more inclusive learning environments can be created. Specific examples of AI technologies that have shown promise in this area were shared, demonstrating the practical benefits of these innovations.

Another significant topic was the integration of AI into educational curricula to prepare students for the evolving job market in Kuwait. Strategies to incorporate AI literacy and future skills training were discussed, ensuring that students are well-equipped for the digital demands of tomorrow's workforce. Ethical considerations were also a crucial part of the conversation, as strategies needed to ethically integrate AI technologies into educational practices and administrative operations were deliberated. The need for comprehensive teacher training programs was emphasized, highlighting the specific AI technologies educators in Kuwait should be trained on to enhance their teaching methods.

The event was further enriched by the participation of esteemed colleagues from AUK, including the dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, Dr. Mohammed El-Abd; Dr. Belal Gharaibeh, associate professor of systems engineering; Dr. Ahmad Alsaber, assistant director of ORG and assistant professor of management; and Dr. Dmytro Roman Kulchitsky, associate professor of public policy and international relations. Their presence and insights contributed significantly to the depth of the discussions. Major barriers to adopting AI in Kuwait's educational sector were addressed, and solutions to overcome these challenges were proposed. AUK and Private Schools Union of Kuwait Partner for Educational Excellence with Cambridge International Diplomas
AUK and the Private Schools Union of Kuwait (PSUK) have joined forces to enhance educational standards in Kuwait. Through AUK's Center for Continuing Education (CCE), they will offer Cambridge International's prestigious International Diploma in Teaching and Learning and Diploma in Educational Leadership to private school educators.

Key representatives, including Mr. Meshaal Ali, vice chair of AUK's Board of Trustees, and Ms. Norah AlGhanim, president of PSUK, signed the agreement. During a ceremony for the partnership, Mr. Meshaal expressed optimism about the partnership, "At AUK, we are deeply committed to nurturing a culture of educational excellence and innovation. Through this partnership with the Private Schools Union of Kuwait, we are expanding access to high-quality educational programs and cultivating a community of empowered educators poised to shape Kuwait's educational landscape." Mrs. Nehal ElShafei reiterated the transformative impact of the collaboration on the private schooling sector, "Through the provision of internationally accredited programs, we are not only reinforcing the professional competence of educators but also elevating the overall standard of education in the private schooling sector. This partnership illustrates our joint commitment to promoting excellence and instigating positive transformation within Kuwait's educational domain."

Mrs. Amal Al-Binali, executive vice president of AUK, highlighted the prestigious accreditation attained by CCE from Cambridge International. Mrs. Al-Binali also shared the significant number of students and graduates who have benefited from the Cambridge International Diploma programs since its inception in 2018.

Ms. AlGhanim emphasized the importance of teacher licensing and the value of partnering with AUK. Ms. Nehal ElShafei, Director of CCE, noted the partnership's role in improving teacher quality across Kuwait.

The collaboration aims to provide educators with internationally recognized credentials, supporting their professional development and enhancing educational standards. The Cambridge International Diplomas will equip educators with essential skills and knowledge to excel in their roles.

PSUK praised the partnership as a significant step towards improving education in private schools, demonstrating a shared commitment to high-quality education and professional growth. CCE will ensure these programs are accessible and provide tailored support for educators, with plans for further professional development opportunities.

Global Academic Partnerships: AUK Welcomes Maltese Ambassador
AUK recently hosted a meeting with His Excellency Prof George A. Said-Zammit, Ambassador of Malta to the State of Kuwait, and representatives from the University of Malta. This significant gathering aimed to discuss potential academic collaborations and exchange opportunities, enhancing AUK’s mission of promoting global student mobility through various international programs. 
 
During the meeting, AUK and the University of Malta explored a range of initiatives to provide students with opportunities to develop essential academic, professional, and personal skills. The discussions focused on facilitating academic exchanges, offering shorter semester courses, and fostering cultural exposure. These efforts are designed to prepare students for a globalized world, equipping them with the skills needed to thrive in diverse professional environments.

Exploring AI-Driven Accessibility: A Keynote at Nafath Majlis by Dr. Iyad Abu Doush
Director of Research and Grants, Dr. Iyad Abu Doush at the American University Of Kuwait presented as a keynote speaker at the prestigious 2nd Edition of “Nafath Majlis.” This significant event was hosted by the Mada Center and took place at the Qatar National Museum. Dr. Abu Doush delivered a presentation titled “The Current State of Artificial Intelligence Tools for Accessibility in Product Development,” providing invaluable insights into the advancements of AI technology aimed at enhancing accessibility.

Dr. Abu Doush's keynote presentation delved into the findings of his latest research, focusing on assessing the maturity of current generative AI tools for accessible product development. The research addressed a critical gap in the field: the lack of standardized methods and universally accepted performance metrics for evaluating AI tools tailored to accessibility needs. By proposing a comprehensive framework, the research aims to empower developers, designers, and stakeholders to make informed decisions regarding the adoption and refinement of AI-driven accessibility solutions.

The event gathered experts and specialists in ICT accessibility and assistive technology. It featured insightful sessions on how next-generation user interfaces can support people with disabilities. Exploring AI-Driven Accessibility: A Keynote at Nafath Majlis by Dr. Iyad Abu Doush

AUK Appoints Dr. Mounib Khanafer as Associate Dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences
AUK associate professor of electrical and computer engineering, Dr. Mounib Khanafer, has been appointed as associate dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences (CEAS). Dr. Khanafer, who joined AUK in 2013, has distinguished himself through his commitment to excellence, innovation, and leadership.   

Dr. Khanafer's academic journey began with a B.Sc. degree (with honors) in electrical engineering from Kuwait University in 2002, followed by a M.A.Sc. in electrical engineering and a PhD in electrical and computer Engineering from the University of Ottawa, Canada, in 2007 and 2012, respectively. 

With three years of industrial experience at Nortel Networks in Ottawa, Dr. Khanafer brings a rich blend of academic and practical knowledge to his new role. His postdoctoral research at the University of Ottawa's School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science focused on Wireless Sensor Networks, a field in which he has continued to excel. 

Dr. Khanafer's scholarly achievements include co-receiving two Best Poster Awards and one Distinguished Paper Award, along with securing several research grants and professional development awards from AUK. In 2022, he was honored with the Dartmouth-AUK Fellowship to research privacy and security in Internet of Things (IoT)-based smart homes. His contributions to the fields of Wireless Sensor Networks and IoT are evidenced by over 30 published papers on related protocols and applications. 

Beyond AUK, Dr. Khanafer has shared his expertise as a visiting professor at the University of Ottawa and Dartmouth College in 2015 and 2022, respectively. He is an active member of the IEEE Computer Society and holds the distinction of being a senior member of IEEE. 
His extensive experience, coupled with his passion for education and research, promises to advance the College forward in preparing future leaders and innovators.

20 Years of Excellence: AUK Graduates Class of 2024
AUK held its graduation commencement for the class of 2024 on Wednesday 12th June conferring the degrees on 415 graduates—155 of which were from the College of Arts and Sciences, 128 from the College of Business and Economics, and 132 from the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Amongst the 2024 cohort, 11 graduates were awarded highest honors (summa cum laude), 26 awarded high honors (magna cum laude), and 45 awarded honors (cum laude).

Held at The Arena Kuwait, the graduation ceremony was attended by Sheikha Dana Nasser Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, founder and chair of AUK's Board of Trustees, members of the AUK board of trustees, diplomats, dignitaries, and families of this year's graduates. 

Following the national anthem and the Holy Quran recitation, AUK president, Dr. Rawda Awwad, acknowledged AUK’s 20-year anniversary by highlighting the University’s commitment to fulfilling its mission, “Since its establishment in 2004, AUK has been at the forefront of educational development and innovation. We are proud of our strategic vision, our partnerships with leading institutions like Dartmouth College, and our internationally accredited programs. Our outreach, training, service learning, and volunteer activities have provided spaces for personal growth and development.” 

President Awwad then extended her well wishes to the graduates, “As you begin your new chapter in your life, please try to appreciate the wealth of knowledge and the values you've gained at AUK. Perseverance, collaboration, empathy, critical thinking, and the spirit of lifelong learning will guide you. Be compassionate and ethical in all that you do.”

This year’s keynote speech was delivered by Mr. Elie Habib, co-founder of Anghami and CEO of OSN+ and Anghami. He emphasized the importance of having a unique mindset in achieving success, “Discipline isn't just about what you choose to do, but also about what you choose not to do. I've met many successful people, and they all have one thing in common: they think differently than most people. They aren’t afraid to reinvent themselves around the goals that matter to them.” 

Following the keynote address, AUK’s vice president for Student Affairs, Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Farhan, announced the class valedictorian, Salah Ali Malek, who earned a Bachelor of Arts in Social and Behavioral Sciences with a 3.96 GPA.

During his speech, Salah addressed his peers and acknowledged how AUK's supportive environment contributed to his success, “As self-driven as one can be, it is unfeasible to thrive or prosper unless you are in the right environment, which leads me back to AUK. Through their culturally diverse, immensely friendly, highly professional, and academically validating environment, I was finally achieving results that reflect my value.”

The event then proceeded to the part of the ceremony most anticipated by the students—the distribution of their earned degrees. Upon the recommendations of the deans—Dr. Ali Charara, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences; Dr. Ralph Palliam, dean of the College of Business and Economics; and Dr. Mohamed El-Abd, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences, President Awwad conferred upon the graduates their respective degrees. The graduates were then awarded their diplomas by President Awwad and respective college deans.

In keeping with the academic tradition, the graduates were requested to shift their tassels from right to left, thereby marking their official graduation from AUK. As the ceremony drew to its conclusion, the graduating class celebrated the occasion and took photos with their parents.

The College of Business & Economics is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business(AACSB); the College of Arts and Sciences is accredited by the American Academy for Liberal Education (AALE); its Bachelor of Arts in Design (concentration in graphic design) is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD); and the Intensive English Program is accredited by the Commission on English Language Program Accreditation (CEA); the Computer Science program is accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).  The Computer Engineering and Electrical Engineering programs are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.

AUK Data Club Members Awarded for Outstanding Contributions
The Office of Research and Grants (ORG) at AUK recently hosted the Data Club Appreciation Ceremony in the Conference Room. This event, organized in collaboration with the College of Business and Economics (CBE), recognized the Data Club members for their invaluable support in various ORG events. 

Supervised by Dr. Ahmad Alsaber, ORG assistant director, Data Club members who contributed to events organized by ORG were awarded certificates in recognition of their significant contributions to university activities.

The event was attended by CBE dean, Dr. Ralph Palliam; Iyad Abu Doush, ORG director; and by Dr. Ahmad Alsaber. The ceremony began with an introductory presentation by Maya Raed Abdin, the president of the Data Club, who gave an overview of their activities and initiatives. 

All Data Club members were awarded certificates for their contributions after the presentation. The recognized members included Maya Raed Abdin, Maitham Mahmoud Al-Sarraf, Dana Ali Ahmed Khalife, Aamnah T S A Alqutami, Nasser S A B AlYaseen, Nadeem Mohammad Najeeb, Taleen M A Ali, Abdulrazzaq Suleiman Al Abdulrazaq, Ruqayah W S A Safar, Ghazel A M S M Alsardi, Ahmed Q.
